Amaya completed her graduate education at Brown University (Philosophy) and Boston College (Counseling Psychology) and her clinical internship at Brigham and Women’s Hospital in Boston, Massachussetts in 2014 where she primarily worked with people having suffered from violent crimes.
Over the next few years, she deepened her clinical practice as a clinician at psychiatric hospitals in Providence, Rhode Island, and Chicago, Illinois where she primarily worked with people in crisis, including treating psychosis, mania, addictions and suicidality.
Later she moved into less intensive settings in day hospital programs, and then trained as an EMDR Therapist (emdria.org) as she transitioned into private practice, which she has found to be an effective tool for her clients who are ready for challenging work.
She continued on to become a Certified Clinical Hypnotherapist, Ayurveda Therapist (ayuskama.com), and has completed additional training in Sex Therapy, Couples Therapy, Somatic Experiencing, and Internal Family Systems.
Amaya has been working in private practice since 2018 and has been in partnership with Northwestern University as a site supervisor for Masters Counseling students since 2021.
